ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Winthrop University is slightly reducing the number of credit hours needed for students to get a bachelor’s degree.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported (https://bit.ly/1mUAyKC) that school officials said the change will help more students obtain degrees and save money.
Students will now be required to earn 120 hours for an undergraduate degree, compared with the current requirement of 124 hours.
Most courses count as three hours of credit, though and the university’s honor symposium courses are offered as one hour of credit.
President Jamie Comstock Williamson says the change should help more students graduate on time.
The school is requiring one hour of credit for a physical education class. Winthrop says 80 percent of students already are taking a suitable physical education class.
