SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah woman serving up to life in prison for the 2008 murder of her toddler has lost her appeal before the state Supreme Court.
Adrianna Lucero was 18 years when she was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 15 years to life.
She claimed her boyfriend caused the death of her 2-year-old son, whose spine was snapped and aorta ruptured.
Her lawyers argued her conviction should have been overturned because prosecutors were allowed to present evidence of past abuse that they say should not have been part of the record.
But the Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://tinyurl.com/lqdnymo) that Chief Justice Matthew Durrant wrote in a majority opinion Tuesday the evidence was appropriate because a prior case of child abuse was “strikingly similar” to the incident that killed the boy.
