PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon woman accused of fooling doctors into performing unnecessary surgeries on her children has had her bail cut by nearly 70 percent.

The Oregonian newspaper reports (https://is.gd/nHg9Ph ) that Multnomah County Judge Eric Bloch on Wednesday reduced Katherine Parker’s bail from $1.2 million to just under $400,000. Defense attorney Jon Martz said it’s still too much for his client to pay, and she will likely remain in jail until trial.

The 44-year-old mother of eight was arrested April 3 on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree criminal mistreatment and other crimes. An indictment alleges the Grants Pass woman medically abused a son, now 8 years old, and two daughters, ages 4 and 6.

Parker pleaded not guilty at a hearing last month. Her trial has not been scheduled.
