FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - The investigation that led to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board to fire its superintendent may not end there.
Board members say former Superintendent Pete Lewis is not the only administrator under investigation for possibly mishandling investigations of repeated allegations against a tutor accused of sexual abuse of a minor on school property.
Lewis was fired Monday, pending a five-day appeal process.
The board cited a “total failure of leadership” by Lewis in the investigation and retention of employees, including the high school tutor who was charged with six counts of abusing a student.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (https://is.gd/WCNV8h) the board said in a statement it intends to examine other staff members for possibly mishandling the allegation. It adds “further actions will be required.”
