WELLESLEY ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) - A Chinese businessman has purchased the Thousand Islands Country Club on Wellesley Island in the St. Lawrence River in northern New York.
Attorney James Messenger Jr. tells the Watertown Daily Times (https://bit.ly/1or3VDS ) that Ximin Shi (shee-EN’ shee) paid $5.2 million for the 976-acre layout on Monday.
The historic club was once part of the Boldt family estate and includes two 18-hole golf courses, two restaurants, 20 villas and a marina.
Messenger says it’s the third golf course Shi has purchased in upstate New York. He also owns Pioneer Hills Golf Club in Ballston Spa in Saratoga County and Greenview Country Club in West Monroe, just north of Syracuse.
The Schwalm family, which had owned the Thousand Islands club since 2002, also sold an additional 326 acres land to Shi.
