CHICAGO (AP) - The number of illegal guns seized by Chicago police has passed the 2,000 mark so far this year.
In a news release, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday that his officers have seized 2,119 illegal guns in 2014.
McCarthy also continued to push for tougher gun laws - something he does whenever his office updates gun seizure statistics.
The Chicago Police Department says it seizes more illegal guns than any police department in the United States. Last year, Chicago’s police force seized more than 6,800 firearms.
