HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The state Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says a 46-year-old inmate is recovering from multiple stab wounds he suffered at the Maryland Correctional Institution near Hagerstown.

Spokesman Mark Vernarelli said Monday that three assailants have been identified but not yet charged in the attack Sunday night.

He says the victim was serving a 25-year sentence for assault and other offenses.

Vernarelli says investigators haven’t determined a motive for the attack.
