CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) - The National Park Service soon will offer guided tours of sites in Charles Town related to abolitionist John Brown.
The walking tours will begin Memorial Day weekend. They will be provided by rangers from Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
Ranger Dennis Frye tells The Journal (https://bit.ly/1iE6TNi ) that the tours will provide historical information about Brown’s trial and execution in Charles Town.
Frye says the tours mark the first formal relationship with a city in the park’s 70-year history.
Brown attacked a federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry in 1859. He planned to seize weapons and start a revolution to end slavery. But the uprising was quashed within 48 hours. Brown was hanged for treason.
