MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Minot State University President David Fuller is getting ready to say goodbye to the school he has headed for a decade.

Fuller is retiring at the end of June. The school held a retirement party for him last week. A public retirement celebration is scheduled Wednesday, and Fuller will oversee his final graduation ceremony on Friday.

“It’s been a fun 10 years,” Fuller said. “I’m proud of where the school is at.”

Fuller in 2004 was named the eighth president of the northern North Dakota school that has about 3,500 students. He led the school through the 2011 Souris River flood, helped it develop a strategic plan, and led it through the transition from NAIA athletics to the NCAA Division II ranks.

MSU professor Kevin Neuharth said he has been impressed with Fuller’s commitment to supporting university events.

“One of the things I think I’ll remember most about the past 10 years is the number of times I’ve seen Dr. and Mrs. (Nancy) Fuller at all of the activities that have gone on in this campus,” he said.

Fuller said he is confident that the school will be in good hands with incoming president Steven Shirley, the current president at Valley City State.

Fuller said he plans to work on various projects in his retirement, including research and writing, and working with groups that help animals and homeless people.

The university has asked the state Board of Higher Education to name a new multimillion-dollar wellness center on campus after Fuller.
