BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Southern University alumnus has sued the school for refusing to renew its contract with Chancellor James Llorens.
Author Joiner tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/QznLxO ) that Llorens has done a great job and stabilized Southern.
Southern University spokesman Ed Pratt said Friday that the school is not commenting on the suit.
The Board of Supervisors voted 9-6 on Feb. 8 and 8-7 on Feb. 24 against extending Llorens’ three-year contract. It’s scheduled to expire June 30.
Joiner wants the 19th Judicial District Court to strike down the board’s previous votes and order either a third vote or renewal.
State District Judge Mike Caldwell has scheduled a hearing May 19.
Joiner has a law degree from Southern and is back in class there, working on a master’s degree in business administration.
