SMITHVILLE, Texas (AP) - Gunfire in a Central Texas town has left two men dead and a woman wounded as police try to determine what prompted the shootings.

Smithville police Chief Rudy Supak says investigators believe one man fatally shot another Sunday afternoon. The gunman then apparently shot his wife before taking his own life.

Names of the three people weren’t immediately released.

The first shooting victim was in a vehicle that crashed into a church. Police minutes later responded to reports of gunfire at a home, where a woman was shot. She was transported to a hospital. Details of her condition weren’t immediately released.

Supak says a body believed to be the gunman was found in a roadway. He died of a self-inflicted wound.

Smithville is 40 miles southeast of Austin.
