PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened Interstate 10 in downtown Phoenix earlier than anticipated.
ADOT says the weekend closure that was needed for a power line project was lifted by 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Officials had initially expected the installation of six new power lines by the Arizona Public Service Co. to last into the evening.
The I-10 closures began early Saturday morning between two separate junctions with Interstate 17.
One end of the closure was at the “Split” junction east of downtown and near Sky Harbor International Airport. The other was the “Stack” junction west of downtown.
ADOT says the westbound 7th Street exit ramp from I-10 will remain closed until the evening.
The agency says crews needed to safely remove and replace old power lines.
