ATTICA, Ind. (AP) - State Police say an ultralight plane has crashed in western Indiana, killing the 72-year-old man who was flying the aircraft.

Sgt. Kim Riley says Saturday afternoon’s crash about three miles south of the town of Attica killed Charles H. Coffing of Covington. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fountain County coroner’s office.

Riley says Coffing was flying the aircraft when it nose-dived into the ground about 20 miles southwest of Lafayette for an unknown reason.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified and were en route to the scene.
