GUILFORD, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s top forestry official is planning to visit Guilford to talk about the future of Sweet Pond.
Vermont Forests, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Michael Snyder is expected to visit Guilford on May 14 to tell local officials the department is committed to restoring the pond, which was drained because of problems with the dam that created it.
Sweet Pond at the Sweet Pond State Park was drained three years ago because the dam had deteriorated.
An engineering study estimates with would cost about $330,000 to restore the dam.
State Rep. Mike Hebert, who represents Guilford, tells the Brattleboro Reformer (https://bit.ly/1pSyp3i ) the meeting with Snyder is to reassure residents the project remains a priority, but he recognizes the state is going through tough economic times.
