PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - State agents will monitor steps being taken by Virginia State University to improve campus security.
The university plans to spend about $1 million to correct security deficiencies, including installing cameras and increasing lighting.
A consultant brought in by the university identified the problems following the fatal shooting of one student and the stabbing of another in separate incidents last fall.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1rIJXBF ) reports that the state inspector general has assigned agents to review and monitor how the deficiencies are being corrected. The office plans to complete a status report before classes resume in the fall.
