BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department is warning of a phone scam involving a man falsely claiming to be a deputy and threatening people to send him a money order to avoid arrest.

Consumer Protection Director Parrell Grossman tells KXMB-TV (https://bit.ly/1fuNZxM ) that people need to be cautious when answering the phone from an unrecognizable number.

Grossman says law enforcement would never call and threaten arrest if a fine is not paid.

He says telephone scammers are difficult to catch because they may be calling from another state or using someone else’s number
