YARNELL, Ariz. (AP) - A nonprofit has completed building the last of nine new homes promised for uninsured residents who lost their property in the Yarnell Hill Fire.
The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1fNgCFo) that the Yarnell Hill Recover Group utilized volunteers and donations to finish construction Friday.
Officials say the project began in September and several were finished before Christmas.
Chuck Tidey, the group’s chairman, says 13 houses in all have been built in the mountain community. Four were built by other builders.
Tidey says there are an additional two dozen homes that are under construction.
The June 30 fire led to the deaths of 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshot firefighting crew and destroyed 127 homes.
