DENVER (AP) - A storm dumped heavy snow in the Colorado mountains and foothills, hampering travel and raising avalanche concerns.
The National Weather Service says snow fell Friday at a rate of about 2 inches an hour in some areas.
The Colorado Department of Transportation reported that areas of Interstate 70 between Vail and Idaho Springs were snow packed and icy.
U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass was closed Friday afternoon because of a snow slide. It reopened about 8:30 p.m. U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass was closed because of poor conditions.
One person died in a multi-vehicle wreck on U.S. 285 in Jefferson County that appeared to be weather related.
The Colorado Avalanche Information Center issued an advisory for potentially deadly avalanches along the Front Range, Vail-Summit County and Sawatch areas this weekend.
