Winston-Salem man dies in apartment fire

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Officials in Winston-Salem say a 74-year-old man has died in an apartment fire.

Police say the body of James Albert Hatcher was found near the door of the apartment Wednesday morning. Initial reports say Hatcher died of smoke inhalation and heat.

The fire was contained to one apartment unit. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Winston-Salem Fire Department.
