PHOENIX (AP) - Funeral services have been scheduled for a Phoenix police officer who suffered fatal wounds in a shootout with a suspect earlier this week.

Phoenix police announced Wednesday that Detective John Hobbs’ funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Peoria.

The 43-year-old Hobbs was a 21-year police veteran and a member of the department’s Major Offenders Unit which is geared at targeting violent criminals.

Hobbs and another undercover detective were shot Monday afternoon while attempting to serve a warrant on a suspect in west Phoenix.

The suspect was declared dead at the scene while Hobbs died hours later of his wounds at a Phoenix hospital.

The other police officer survived and was released from the hospital Wednesday.
