SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - For the fourth time, the Southaven Police Department’s fugitive division will hold its two-day warrant amnesty program Tuesday and Thursday.
Started in 2012, the program called “Operation Safe Surrender” helps the department clear old misdemeanor warrants.
The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1hIxETo ) the program allows those facing a contempt of court violation or a probation violation for traffic tickets and other misdemeanor charges to pay a minimum of $350 for the contempt warrant and a minimum of $100 for the probation violation of what they owe and then pay the remainder through a payment plan.
Lt. Mark Little said the department sent out about 2,000 letters to people with outstanding warrants.
Since the program was launched, about $5,000 has been collected in fines and several hundred warrants have been cleared.
