HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Some schools in Connecticut are opening late as snow, sleet and freezing rain fall in northern parts of the state.

Schools in Torrington and Litchfield are among those opening 90 minutes to two hours late Monday morning. Several regional school districts in western Connecticut also are opening late.

The National Weather Service is warning of icy conditions through the morning commute.



Heavy snow was falling in Hartford on Monday morning.

Rain and sleet are expected to fall throughout the day, with clearing and temperatures in the 50s on Tuesday.
