HONOLULU (AP) - The Walmart store in Lihue was evacuated after people detected a noxious odor that caused eye and throat irritation.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://is.gd/gXCDes) says seven people were transported to a local hospital at the request of fire officials. Two others reportedly checked themselves into an emergency room for medical treatment.

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.



Kauai County officials say firefighters responded to the scene at about 11 a.m. Sunday. Officials say the source of the odor that force evacuation was not immediately determined.

Officials say the odor was confined to the store’s main entryway.

A Walmart manager says the store was reopened at about 2 p.m. Sunday.
