SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - State officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads in South Dakota as a strong snow storm makes its way across the state.
The National Weather Service says six to 12 inches of heavy, wet snow is expected in parts of the plains in western South Dakota, with higher amounts in the Black Hills.
The weather service says snow is expected late Sunday and early Monday, and strong winds may cause blowing and drifting snow.
Darin Bergquist, secretary of the state Department of Transportation, is warning drivers that travel will be extremely difficult throughout the state Sunday night and Monday. He says residents should make plans to “stay put” until conditions improve.
