MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A popular disc jockey at a club in Memphis is suing police after being arrested twice because he shares a stage name with another announcer.
The Commercial Appeal reported (https://bit.ly/PbnYXH ) that Mike “DJ Mike” Schalk filed suit in federal court last week after being held for five days because law enforcement mistook him for another DJ Mike.
Schalk works at The Blue Monkey’s Midtown restaurant and tavern as “DJ Mike.”
Schalk’s lawyers say the man police were actually looking for is a man who works 16 miles away at Blu Restaurant & Bar and is alleged to have sold ecstacy to an informant.
Schalk is seeking $1 million in damages.
Reached at work Friday, the detectives and representatives of the sheriff’s office and police department declined to comment.
