ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage voters on Tuesday will decide the fate of $57 million in school bonds.
The Anchorage Daily News reports (https://is.gd/BfNDOQ) a majority of the money is earmarked to overhaul Airport Heights Elementary School, which is strapped for space.
The bonds also would provide $28 million for renovations at other schools, including a $550,000 upgrade to the roof at West High School and almost $6 million to replace electrical systems at Huffman Elementary School.
If the bond package is approved, Anchorage property owners would yearly pay almost $5 for every $100,000 of their assessed property valuation.
Voters have approved bond packages the past few years, but in 2011 rejected $53 million for renovations at Service High School and other buildings.
