ALBANY, Ore. (AP) - The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a 16-year-old Albany girl has been struck and killed by a train.
Sheriff Bruce Riley in a release identified the victim of the Saturday night accident at Sara-Tessa Raechelle Lytle.
A Union Pacific Railroad employee called 911 to report a person had been hit by train while walking south on the railroad tracks in a dark, unlit area near Highway 99E and Beta Drive.
The caller said the southbound freight train was traveling about 40 mph.
Riley says deputies and personnel from the Tangent Fire Department searched the area and found the teen’s body about 11:26 p.m. Riley says the investigation shows she was alone at the time.
Grief counselors on Monday will be at West Albany High School, where Lytle was a student.
