BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A leader of the bus driver’s union that has been on strike for nearly two weeks in Vermont’s largest county says there is going to be a meeting to seek a solution to the strike.
Chief Steward Mike Walker says union negotiators and representatives of the Chittenden County Transportation Authority are meeting on Friday.
Unionized bus drivers have been on strike since March 17. The strike has hit students, immigrants and low-income Vermonters hard.
The two sides are haggling over wages, disciplinary action from anonymous tips, part-time drivers and split shifts.
CCTA officials said they had received a “credible” offer from the union that could be used as the basis for further negotiations but due to request of a federal mediator, they “cannot comment on the timing of the negotiations.”
