SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) - A 54-year-old man has been convicted of killing a woman who’d sent him a text that enraged him.

On Thursday a Cheyenne County jury convicted Larry Martinez of first-degree murder and use of a firearm. Authorities say Martinez fatally shot 30-year-old Mandy Kershman on July 18, 2012, at the home of a friend in Sidney.

Martinez had told officers he was angry about a text message she’d sent him. Police say he shot her as he confronted her about it.

Martinez’s sentencing is scheduled for May 7. He faces life in prison.
