DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Investigators say a Thursday apartment fire that left two children dead began in the bedroom where the children were sleeping.
The Decatur Daily (https://tinyurl.com/loxj5e9 ) reported Friday that Decatur Fire Marshal Jason Jones said the blaze began in the bedroom. Jones told the newspaper that investigators don’t believe there was anything suspicious about the fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene three minutes after the fire was reported, but were unable to rescue Marlena Miland, 4, and Dexter Miland Jr., 2.
The children’s mother said the smoke alarm never sounded in their unit. Jones said he could not comment on if the smoke alarms were functional.
