Jury in Aberdeen convicts man of raping 7-year-old

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A jury in northeastern South Dakota has convicted a man accused of raping a 7-year-old girl.

Forty-two-year-old Frederick Slota faces up to life in prison. The American News reports (https://bit.ly/1hdl3Iu ) that a sentencing date was not immediately set following the Wednesday evening verdict, which the jury presented after about 2 ½ hours of deliberations.

Slota was accused of sexually assaulting the girl in late 2012 at an Aberdeen home. Authorities say the girl reported the incident to school officials. Slota denied the claim.
