DETROIT (AP) - A jury has convicted a Detroit area man in the strangulation of a neighbor in her suburban home.

The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says Myron Williams was found guilty Thursday of first-degree felony murder and unarmed robbery in the slaying of Sabrina Gianino.

The 35-year-old Gianino was found dead last May in Grosse Pointe Park, just east of the Detroit city limit. Williams was staying with a relative who lived next door to Gianino.

Sentencing is scheduled on April 8. Michigan law sets a mandatory sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole for first-degree murder.

Defense attorney Charles Longstreet II says Williams maintains his innocence and will file an appeal.
