CORDELL, Okla. (AP) - The mayor of the western Oklahoma town of Cordell - who is under investigation for holding two paid positions with the town - says he will resign both jobs.

Mayor Alex Damon told The Oklahoman (https://bit.ly/1hxltpK ) that he will step down April 1 to take a job with a state agency. He declined to identify the agency.

Damon is also general manager of Cordell’s utilities authority and Washita County District Attorney Dennis Smith asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to look into the work arrangement after it was questioned in a state audit more than a year ago.

Damon said his attorney has been discussing an agreement with Smith to avoid prosecution. Smith could not be reached for comment.
