JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Senate has passed legislation that would criminalize distribution or publication of audio or video recordings of an interview of a child gathered during a child abuse investigation.
SB187, from Sen. John Coghill, passed 19-0. It next goes to the House.
Coghill, in a release, says the bill is based on a situation that happened in Alaska in which video of children being interviewed in an abuse investigation was posted online. He says no child should have to be revictimized.
The bill also would make it a Class A misdemeanor to distribute or publish any physical evidence involving a minor gathered for such an investigation.
SB187 would allow for that material to be made available to an involved party’s attorney, and only as needed to prepare for a case.
