ATLANTA (AP) - The president of Southern Polytechnic State University announced Wednesday that she will step down this summer and take a new job with a California university.
Lisa A. Rossbacher will become the president of Humboldt State University in July, University System of Georgia officials said in a statement.
During her tenure, Rossbacher established strong business connections and helped develop a diverse student body, University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby said in a statement. He added that Rossbacher also remains a vocal supporter of women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
SPSU is located in Marietta and focuses on science and technology education. The school is slated to merge with Kennesaw State University and University System of Georgia officials have said KSU President, Dan Papp, would serve as president.
University System of Georgia Officials in late November named Papp and Rossbacher as a co-chairs of the SPSU-KSU Consolidation Implementation Committee.
According to the California State University Board of Trustees, Rossbacher is the first woman president in Humboldt State University’s 100-year history. Rossbacher began serving as SPSU president in 1998.
