TACOMA,Wash. (AP) - A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official says a man held at a federal immigration detention center in Tacoma, Wash., was taken to a hospital after a “medical emergency.” Other detainees told a newspaper that the man had tried to hang himself.
The News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/rX0XSu ) that ICE spokesman Andrew Munoz said in a statement that “the nature of the incident is under review.”
The man was hospitalized Monday and was later reported in satisfactory condition.
Some detainees at the center have recently participated in a hunger strike to call for better treatment and an end to deportations.
