DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A Dubuque man accused of trying to get his daughter to obtain harmful pills he could slip into his wife’s drink has pleaded guilty.
The Dubuque Telegraph Herald says (https://bit.ly/1j2ZpHB ) 55-year-old Michael Schoonover had made a deal with prosecutors before making his plea on Monday. Prosecutors will recommend probation and a suspended five-year prison sentence on his charge of solicitation to commit a felony. His sentencing is scheduled for June 2.
A criminal complaint says Schoonover asked his 17-year-old daughter to get “unknown pills” for him so he could secretly put them in a drink for his wife. He said he wanted to put the girl’s mother in a hospital or “to sleep.”
The girl contacted an older sister and police.
