WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A Chicago man has been found guilty of a drug-induced homicide in the heroin-related death of a DuPage County man.
Judge Blanche Hill Fawell found 25-year-old Malcolm Brown guilty of supplying heroin to Stephen Briston of Wheaton.
In 2011, Briston died of a drug overdose a day after receiving heroin from Brown. Authorities arrested Brown the day of Briston’s death. He’s been in custody since that day and held on $5 million bail.
Drug induced homicide is a felony punishable from six to 30 years in prison.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin says the verdict sends a message that his office will aggressively pursue those selling heroin. He says the number of heroin deaths in DuPage County is “simply astounding.”
The county had 46 heroin-related deaths last year.
