NEWCASTLE, England (AP) - Everton boosted its chances of finishing in the Champions League positions by beating Newcastle 3-0 on Tuesday, with an impressive win sparked by a brilliant goal from Ross Barkley.

The England international set off from inside his own half and powered through Newcastle’s defense before blasting home a fierce shot in the 22nd minute.

Romelu Lukaku fired a shot into the roof of the net in the 52nd and Leon Osman cemented victory with a third in the 87th after good work by Gerard Deulofeu, who helped set up all three goals.

Everton is six points behind fourth-place Arsenal with a game in hand.
