WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A Waukegan man has been sentenced to 47 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the 2010 death of a Park City taxi driver.
The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1mtjwSd) 42-year-old Darryell Garner was sentenced Tuesday in Lake County. He entered the plea last month in Lake County Circuit in the death of 44-year-old Patrick Foster.
Prosecutors say Foster died after being shot five times while fighting off Garner. Foster managed to pin the alleged robber to the seat of the cab until police arrived.
Garner will receive credit for four years served since he was arrested.
Garner’s defense attorney Keith Grant has said Garner confessed to Zion police and felt “he needed to do the right thing.”
