WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A northeast Iowa man has been sentenced to 32 years in prison in connection to a crash last June that killed a woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1gjFdkl ) 22-year-old Bryan Cornwell received the sentence Monday in connection to the death of 20-year-old Katlyn Leekley, of Jesup. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges as part of a deal, including homicide by vehicle. He will be eligible for parole after seven years.
Leekley’s boyfriend, 24-year-old Derek Martie, was driving the motorcycle and was injured in the crash.
Authorities say Cornwell was driving a pickup when he struck the couple’s motorcycle then drove away. Police say he had a blood alcohol content of .214, well above the legal limit to drive.
