LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - The corruption trial of a former Lawrence mayor’s chief of staff is scheduled to get started.

Jury selection in the trial of Leonard Degnan is expected to start Monday in Lawrence Superior Court.

Degnan is the former chief of staff to ex-Mayor William Lantigua.

Charges against Degnan include solicitation of a bribe, extortion and conspiracy. Prosecutors say he pressured a city trash contractor to donate a truck to a town in Lantigua’s native Dominican Republic. Degnan allegedly threatened to void the contract “without cause” if the garbage truck wasn’t donated.

Degnan has denied the charges.

The Eagle-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1jmgsHp ) reports that an extensive witness list includes Lantigua.

The trial is expected to last one to two weeks.
