MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Minot State University and a non-profit organization are partnering to sign up interested people to a national bone marrow registry.

The registry helps identify matching blood stem cell donors for individuals who have blood cancer or other life-threatening blood disorders.

People interested in joining the registry can attend an April 2 event at the university’s student center. People will undergo a simple cheek swab that is meant to collect cells for tissue typing.

University officials say it is estimated that only half of those who need a stem cell donor will find a suitable match.
