SULPHUR, La. (AP) - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 20-year-old man has died after swimming across the West Fork of the Calcasieu River.

Spokeswoman Kim Myers says Kyle Simpson of Lake Charles went under Saturday evening, after swimming to a rope swing across from Holbrook Park in Sulphur.

She says Simpson’s family called the sheriff’s office after trying unsuccessfully to find him.

The sheriff’s office marine patrol found Simpson’s body in the river near the swing.

Myers says the family had gone to the park for a day of fishing.
