LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Sporting Lisbon kept the pressure on Portuguese leader Benfica with a 3-1 victory against Maritimo on Saturday.

Sporting’s first win in four tries at Maritimo began with Adrien Silva’s fourth-minute penalty, but that was canceled out by Liberia midfielder Theo Weeks just two minutes later off a counterattack.

William Carvalho smashed Sporting ahead again in the 39th, and Jefferson sealed the victory in the 85th from another break as the Sporting defender shot through goalkeeper Romain Salin’s legs.

Sporting crept within four points of Benfica, which meets Academica on Sunday.

In another 24th-round match, Guimaraes and Gil Vicente played to a scoreless draw.

Portuguese champion FC Porto, which trails Benfica by 12 points, plays Belenenses on Sunday.
