EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Before his sentencing on Thursday, 22-year-old Bryan James Scott apologized for kicking and stomping on Christopher Patterson’s head during a 2012 bar fight in Mountlake Terrace.
Patterson was beaten into a coma and the 32-year-old died seven months later. Scott pleaded guilty in January to first-degree manslaughter.
The Daily Herald reports (https://is.gd/IbmUBb ) Scott was sentenced Thursday to seven years in jail. The sentencing hearing in Snohomish County Superior Court was packed with supporters of both men.
Key evidence in the case was surveillance video that documented what happened outside the pub on Oct. 4, 2012. Deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson asked that the video be played prior Judge George Bowden deciding on Scott’s sentence.
Prosecutors had initially charged Scott with assault. That was amended to second-degree murder after Patterson died. The plea eliminated the need for a trial.
