PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A spokeswoman for Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY’-fee) says he is confident that members of the state House will “continue the job they were elected to do” after Speaker Gordon Fox announced he was resigning from the top post following raids of his home and office.
Chafee said earlier Saturday that he is not commenting about the raids themselves by federal and state law enforcement officials. He says that he is being kept “well informed” by Rhode Island State Police Col. Steven O’Donnell, but says he prefers not to comment about the raid or what authorities are investigating.
Officials from state police, FBI, IRS and U.S. Attorney’s office raided Fox’s office and Providence home on Friday. Authorities will not comment on whom or what they are investigating.
