GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - State Sen. John Hines, of Gillette, says he doesn’t plan to seek re-election this year and will retire after 30 years in the Legislature.
Hines is a 78-year-old Republican who has served in both the state House and Senate. He was first elected to the House in 1984. He was Senate president in 2009-2010.
Hines announced his decision Friday. He tells the Gillette News-Record (https://bit.ly/1h3uTc8 ) it’s getting difficult for him to maintain his interest in the Legislature - he’s heard all the arguments already.
But he says there should be considerable interest in the race to replace him.
Hines chairs the Senate Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee. He also serves on the Energy Council, Select Water Committee and the Senate Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Committee.
