LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe has ordered Arkansas flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in honor of a state deputy who was killed while driving a hitchhiker to a homeless shelter.
Lafayette (luh-FAY’et) County Chief Deputy Pete Richardson was taking 30-year-old Michael Lee Ackart to Texarkana when Ackhart grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle, causing the deadly crash.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1djsW04) that Ackart, of Tulsa, Okla., has been charged with second-degree murder.
Beebe says Richardson exemplified the finest traits of Arkansas’s law-enforcement community: loyalty, bravery and selfless devotion to duty.
