YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - The Catholic Diocese of Yakima concluded its defense Thursday in a $3 million sex abuse lawsuit filed by a Zillah man.

Closing arguments will be held in April before a federal judge in Yakima who is hearing the case without a jury.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1hMYx7d) the Zillah man says he was given alcohol and raped in 1999 by a candidate for the priesthood. The lawsuit says the church failed to check his background and supervise him when he worked at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah.

The lawyer for the diocese says the Zillah man’s memory is inconsistent.
